Digital Detox Cabin Breaks in West Sussex

A different kind of digital detox retreat — a cosy converted American school bus in its own private meadow, with no WiFi, a wood-fired hot tub and the South Downs on the doorstep.

Looking for a Digital Detox Cabin? Try Something Different

If you’re looking for a digital detox cabin, you probably have something fairly simple in mind: somewhere private, comfortable and surrounded by nature, where it’s easy to put the phone away for a couple of days.

The Skoolie gives you all of that, but it’s a little different.

From the outside, it’s an original American school bus. Inside, it feels much more like a cosy cabin: warm timber, a proper king-size bed, wood burner, kitchen, bathroom and big windows looking out across your own meadow.

There’s no WiFi, no TV, no shared facilities and no neighbouring guests. Outside, you have your own wood-fired hot tub beneath the oak tree.

You can disappear here as a couple, bring the kids for a screen-free family break, or simply come for a quiet weekend when life has got too noisy.

What Switching Off Here Is Like

There’s no programme to follow and nobody is going to confiscate your phone. The idea is simply to make not using it surprisingly easy.

Heat the hot tub. Light the wood burner. Cook something slowly. Take a walk. Read. Play a game. Sit outside after dark. Have a glass of wine. Go to bed when you’re tired.

The Skoolie sits alone in its meadow, bordered by trees and open countryside. There’s no campsite noise and nobody sharing your space.

For a couple of days, there simply isn’t very much demanding your attention.

  • No WiFi
  • No TV
  • Private meadow
  • Wood-fired hot tub
  • Wood burner
  • South Downs walks nearby
  • Space for up to four

Not Just for Couples

This is where we exploit one of your genuine differences without trying to turn it into a keyword.

Digital detox retreats are often designed around two people and longer stays. The Skoolie gives you a bit more flexibility.

It sleeps up to four, with a king-size bed and two full-length bunks, so it works just as well for a family wanting to get the kids away from screens as it does for a couple wanting a quiet weekend.

Two-night stays are available, too. You don’t necessarily need to turn a digital detox into a three- or four-night retreat.

FAMILIES

Proper beds for four, a whole meadow outside and considerably more interesting things to do than stare at a screen.

COUPLES

Hot tub, long walks, quiet evenings and nowhere you need to be. More space than box cabins.

TWO NIGHTS, or more..

A two-night stay is enough to arrive Friday, properly slow down on Saturday and head home Sunday. And midweek breaks are even better!

Cycling and walking in the South Downs near Skoolie Stays in West Sussex

A Digital Detox Weekend in the South Downs

You don’t have to stay put. The Skoolie is in rural West Sussex, close to the South Downs and within easy reach of some excellent walks, pubs and wild countryside.

You also have the South Downs Way, Knepp, Amberley, Wiston, local vineyards, and more.

Or don’t go anywhere at all. Staying in the meadow, soaking in the hot tub and doing very little is entirely acceptable.

Come When It's Quieter

A digital detox doesn’t have to be a summer escape. In some ways autumn and winter are better suited to it — quieter paths, darker evenings, the wood burner going and a hot tub that feels even better when it’s cold outside.
